This is one of the few remains of a 1st Century synagogue that has been found by archaeologist. Gamla was destroyed by the Romans during the Jewish revolt of 66 - 70 A.D. and was never rebuilt. There can be no question that this synagogue was in use during the 1st Century A.D. (the time of Jesus).
